Car News: Innoson rolls out 500 made in Nigeria cars

The Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company
Limited will today make history as the first
indigenous car manufacturer in the country
with the official unveiling of 500 made in
Nigeria cars built at its Nnewi, Anambra
State, plant.
In this exclusive interview with CHIDI NNADI ,
the Chairman of Innoson Group, Dr Innocent
Chukwuma, he looked at his journey into
auto manufacturing, which he said began
with his trading in motorcycle spare parts.
Chief Chukwuma assured that his cars,
which conform to international standards,
would lower car prices in the country like he
did when he started to manufacture mo
torcyles some years back. He also promised
to use his auto company to boost the
Nigerian economy as well as generate em
ployment. Excerpts:
What is your journey into auto
manufacturing like?
I started assembling business with mo
torcycle spare parts and later moved to
motorcycle assembling. Later I moved again
from motorcycle manufacturing to auto
manufacturing. I passed through these
stages before I started to manufacture ve
hicles in 2010, but the factory was built in
2007 at Nnewi. We are also into tyre manu
facture with our factory in Enugu. We did not
start all these lines of production in one day;
we take them one after another. For
example, we are manufacturing some of the
vehicle components here while we only
import the ones we cannot produce here.
What are the first brand of vehicles you
manufactured?
We started manufacturing buses, but later
added Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs), pick-
up vans, trucks and now cars, which we will
commission today. We started to
manufacture buses first because of its high
demand in the country. But I knew from the
beginning that we will produce all brands of
vehicles and that we have achieved now.
What is the market acceptance of your
vehicles?
Our vehicles are well accepted in the market,
the dealers, the end users and Nigerians are
happy with our range of vehicles. We are
amazed by the demand and level of
patronage of our vehicles by Nigerians. In
dividuals, corporate organisations, institu
tions, governments and other Nigerians are
demanding our vehicles. Those who have
used them attest that they are rugged, the
type that can withstand the Nigerian roads
which are usually rough. We are only pray
ing that we would have enough vehicles to
meet up the demands.
What are the sources of your raw materials
for the vehicles?
We source our raw materials locally here
while we import those we cannot readily get
here. But we generate over 50 per cent of
our vehicle components locally here.
How affordable are your cars?
We want to make sure that our cars are very
affordable. We have done this before when
we started motorcycles manufacturing and
we are going to do it again with our cars. I
can assure you that our cars will be highly
affordable without compromising
international standards on cars manufacture.
We have cars of N1 million plus, N2 million
plus and N3 million; we also have three
models of cars under this price range.
What are your marketing strategy and niche
in the market?
Innoson is a very strong brand in Nigeria
and even beyond the country. All our
products are of high quality, we don’t com
promise on the quality of our products and
we are known for this. So, Nigerians will
definitely like our cars because they are of
good quality and built specifically to with
stand the Nigerian roads. Nigerians have
good taste and appreciate quality products,
so they will definitely love our cars, I am
100 per cent sure of it.
What is the standard used by IVM in the
manufacture of its cars?
Auto manufacturing follows international
standard, that is the same thing across the
globe. So, we are adhering strictly to this
international standard. Besides, the Standard
Organisation of Nigera (SON) is supervising
what we are doing, they come to our factory
and they are happy with what we are doing.
Our cars like the buses we started first to
manufacture are of international standard
and we are not going back on this.
You said you also manufacture tyres?
Yes, we also went into tyre manufacturing
because we discovered that Nigeria has the
best quality of rubber, the Nigerian rubber is
so good, so I want to utilize it as raw
material to develop the tyre industry in
Nigeria. Also, you know that tyre is a very
important component of vehicles; so since
we manufacture vehicles here at Nnewi, it
only follows that we must also manufacture
tyres, which we believe will help to further
lower the prices of our vehicles. We want to
make sure that the local content of our
vehicles is high as this will affect their
prices for the betterment of the end users
who are largely Nigerians.
How are you going to sell these cars, do
you have showrooms?
We have designed to build state-of-the-art
showrooms in the six geo-political zones of
the country, including Abuja and Lagos.
These showrooms will be supplying spare
parts, sales of the vehicles and at the same
time have a section for workshop which if
your vehicles develop faults, you go and fix
them there. You can see from the sketch
drawing here that it is a masterpiece. The
concept is that we will control the one at the
headquarters in Abuja and Lagos while the
dealers will control those in the zones for
good synergy between the dealers and
managers at the headquarters. Already, we
have started to construct the showrooms in
Abuja and Lagos.
What is the workforce at your auto plant
like, are you using expatriate staff?
The major parts of the job will be done by
Nigerian workers. We have a policy to
encourage indigenous workforce except in
cases where we cannot get the technical
support needed in the plant locally. But we
will first of all create jobs for Nigerians.
How many cars are you rolling out today?
We are rolling out 500 units. Already, some
of the cars have been bought. We
discovered that some people, as soon as
they heard we have started producing cars,
placed orders. This is because the cars are
fantastic. You know our people used to say
that good market sells itself. The demand
already is quite impressive and when we
launch today, we know the demand will
skyrocket.
There was a time the Federal Government
demanded buses from your company but
the quantity was not met, why?
There is no way you can place order for
large quantity of vehicles today and you have
that number supplied to you immediately.
But whatever quantity you want, if you place
the order on time on the date of delivery, we
will meet your demand. There is no quantity
that is too much for us to produce. What we
need is to increase our manpower to meet
up the demand, but we must be given
adequate notice.
We understand that some state
governments are using your vehicles, what
is the feedback from these states about the
performance of your products?
Yes, a good number of states in Nigeria are
already using the various types of our
vehicle; buses, SUVs, trucks and now cars
and they have found them very efficient and
durable; they are very happy to use our
brands. Our trucks are doing well in the
states that are using them. Remember that
we manufacture these trucks on specification
and order; Abia, Enugu, Delta, Cross River
and Benue states are so far the states we
have manufactured trucks for, essentially for
their waste disposal projects. And these
states are quite happy when they compare
the trucks they were using before and the
IVM trucks.
What are your challenges?
Right now, we don’t have much challenges;
sourcing of the raw materials is not too
difficult, the raw materials are readily
available. In fact, we now have more than 50
per cent local content. Already, we
manufacture plastics which are components
of some parts of vehicles and we
manufacture them here. So, this is one of
the reasons our vehicles are cheaper than
others in the market.
In the next 10 years, where do you think
IVM will be?
For now IVM is the first indigenous car
manufacturer in Nigeria and so long as Ni
gerians are demanding our cars, in the next
10 years, our cars will help to grow the
economy. We are sustaining what we are
doing by the financial support of the Bank of
Industry and the Automotive Council.
What is your promise to Nigerians?
One thing is sure; IVM cars will never
disappoint Nigerians. We are here not only
to promote the economy, but also to create
employment for Nigerians. If we have more
demands of our vehicles we will stand firm
to increase our workforce thus reducing
unemployment level in the country. I,
therefore, enjoin Nigerians to take advantage
of this new dawn, the IVM vehicles are their
own and are here to serve them for the
better.

News: FRSC commences speed limit enforcement June, 2015

Beginning from June 1, 2015, motorists are
expected to have Maximum Speed Limiter device
in their vehicles as a means to reduce road
crashes to minimal level.
This was disclosed on Friday in Abuja by road
stakeholders in a communiqué issued at the end
of One-day forum on The National Policy on
Maximum Road Speed Limiter for Vehicles.
According to the stakeholders, the decision was
made because number of crashes and fatalities
arising from overspeeding was alarming and
needed to be curbed.
“Installation of Speed Limiting devices on vehicles
remains one of the cardinal strategies for curbing
the menace of road crashes associated with
speeding.
“Federal Road Safety Commission and other
stakeholders will embark on awareness across the
nation to sensitize the general public,” the
statement read.
Speaking with the Newsmen at the end of the
forum, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal and
Chief Executive Officer, FRSC, said the commission
is presently empowered to apprehend any one
that violates speed limit.
“There is an existing law against speed limit in
the country but the major speeding still
constitutes high cause of accident on our roads.
“With the introduction of maximum Speed Limiter
on vehicles, drivers will not be able to go beyond
the limit on each road once the device is installed
in their vehicles.
“We are starting the implementation of the Speed
Limiter by June next year after consultation with
stakeholders and getting the approval of Standard
Organisation of Nigeria on standards,” Oyeyemi
said.
He also added that the implementation of the
policy would be in two batches..

Car News: Nissan releases the Godzilla GT-R

Oh sure, Nissan has worked on the ‘GT' part of the
GT-R badge; certainly the ‘R' is catered for thanks
to a twin-turbo V6, four-wheel-drive and enough
power to realign the moon. Here though, the bid is
to make it more comfortable. As such, there's
quite a suite of updates to sift through so pay
attention.
So, deep breath... the damper rates of the shock
absorbers have been modified to improve
cornering stability, there's a new tyre construction
for better straight-line stability and ride quality, a
modified shim structure between brake pads and
caliper pistons (to improve feel) has been
introduced, and the steering has been ‘optimised'
to reduce engine vibration at idle.
There's been no increase in power - with 542bhp
and a 2.8sec 0-62mph time, it's hardly necessary,
we think - but the engine and transmission
management systems have been retuned, and the
clearance of the transaxle and driveshaft has been
modified in a bid to reduce vibration and noise.
Even the ruddy bearings inside the flywheel
housing have been modified so that they chatter
less.
Here's the killer, though: the carpet in the boot has
been changed to improve sound insulation. Yep,
this is chapter and verse on How To Update Your
Nissan GT-R .
However, there is a new special edition that could
apply to those not seeking additional comfort
levels, and it's called the Track Edition engineered
by Nismo. As you would suspect, it's been tuned
to go fast around a track, and it's been built by
Nismo; a stepping stone into the full-fat Nismo
GT-R.
You get custom adhesive bonding for increased
bodyshell rigidity, flared front arches with air ducts,
custom suspension, a new stabilizer with higher
spring rates, forged RAYS aluminium wheels and
Dunlop Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST tyres. Ready
your finest maximum lateral-g face.
It's on sale in Japan as we speak, but there's been
no announcement yet from Nissan UK on an
expected arrival over on these shores. Still, better
to start saving all that money, because the current
GT-R starts from £78k and rises to £131k for the
range-topping Nismo version.

Car News: 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Debuts with Flat-Crank V-8 and MagneRide Shocks!

The GT350 is back, baby. The last factory
Ford Mustang to wear the vaunted badge
disappeared nearly a half-century ago;
based on the Mustang GT, it was a street-
legal track weapon produced in
partnership with Carroll Shelby. Ol’ Shel
may now be gone, but the ties between
his name and Ford’s pony car are as
strong as ever. And the new GT350, which
picks up where the original GT350 and the
2013 Boss 302 left off, may be the best-ever
example of the breed.
The outgoing GT500 , the most recent
Mustang with a Shelby badge, was all
about violent, face-flattening velocity,
teaming 662 bombastic, supercharged
horses with a solid rear axle. Ford’s
newest Shelby takes an entirely different
approach. For starters, it’s based on the
latest “S550” Mustang chassis, which
packs a fully independent rear
suspension. The GT350 builds on that with
Ford’s first suspension with
magnetorheological dampers, unique
bodywork that’s shaped for aerodynamics
first and everything else second, and a
naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-8 with a
flat-plane crankshaft. It’s a thoroughly
modern pony built for racetracks with
apexes instead of those with burnout
boxes. (Ford isn’t abandoning that niche,
however, as a new GT500 is in the works .)
WE CAN’T COMPLAIN, IT’S ON A FLAT-
PLANE
The V-8 engine skips turbo- or
supercharging in favor of a sky-high
redline—there’s no official number yet,
but we’ve heard 8000-plus rpm—and that
fancy flat-plane crank, a trick favored by
Ferrari. For those unfamiliar, a flat
crankshaft design involves attaching the
crank pins at 180-degree intervals rather
than the usual 90; this allows for a firing
order that bounces back and forth
between the two cylinder banks,
providing evenly spaced exhaust pulses.
It’s all about better breathing, and it
results here, says Ford, in the most
powerful naturally aspirated engine the
company has ever produced. The
carmaker hasn’t yet released final output
ratings, but it does tell us to expect more
than 500 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of
torque. Hell. Yea!!. For comparison, the
Boss 302 made 444 horses and 380 lb-ft
from a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8,
and the new Mustang GT gets 435 and 400
from its updated five-oh.
If there’s anything flat-crank engines are
known for beyond big revs and a bunch
of power, it’s their unique sound. On this
point, Ford promises we won’t be
disappointed: “Make no mistake, this is an
American interpretation of a flat-plane
crankshaft V-8, and the 5.2-liter produces
a distinctive, throaty howl.” Happily—
very, very happily—the engine can be
paired only with a six-speed manual.
Output is then routed to a standard-
equipment Torsen limited-slip
differential; a diff cooler can be ordered,
and it feeds on airflow directed from the
rear diffuser.
As mentioned, the new Shelby features
MagneRide, Ford’s first-ever application
of the continuously controlled
magnetorheological damping system. This
setup alters shock stiffness at each corner
independently every 10 milliseconds
based on the car’s yaw angle and
suspension load. The GT350 joins various
General Motors vehicles—including the
Corvette and the Camaro ZL1 —the Audi TT
and R8, and multiple Ferraris in offering
the technology. In the Shelby, the
suspension can be cycled through five
modes, which also control steering effort,
throttle sensitivity, the exhaust, and
programming of the ABS and traction-
and stability-control systems.

This ride doesn't come with an automatic transmission,  If you want an auto, you have no
business driving one of these. Go buy an SUV, or,
a minivan.

One heck of a ride I must confess!

Honda Hid Nearly 1800 Injuries and Deaths From NHTSA For More Than a Decade

Honda Motor Company disclosed this
week that it failed to report 1729 injuries
or deaths to the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration as required by law.
The unreported incidents, which occurred
between 2003 and 2014, vastly outweigh
the approximately 900 injuries or deaths
the company did report during that time.
The New York Times reports that this
week’s revelation comes after an outside
law firm audited Honda’s reporting
procedures at the carmaker’s request. The
issue of underreporting injuries and
deaths was first identified by a Honda
employee in 2011, the Times reports.
“Apparently, there was no follow-up,”
Honda said in a statement.
The required reports are part of Early
Warning Reporting, a system that requires
carmakers to report to NHTSA any
injuries or deaths blamed on vehicle
defects. The system was established
in 2000 in response to rollover crashes
blamed on Ford Explorers wearing
Firestone tires.
Rick Schostek, executive vice president of
Honda North America, blamed the
missing reports on “inadvertent data
entry and computer programming errors,”
noting that injury and death claims
entered without a date were omitted from
incident reports. Not everyone buys that
explanation: Allan J. Kam, a former
NHTSA lawyer now working as an auto-
safety consultant, told The New York
Times, “this is not an occasional error;
this is systematic underreporting by the
company.”
The admission could open Honda to
federal penalties up to $35 million, the
fine General Motors received for failure to
disclose defective ignition switches in a
timely manner, although lawmakers are
now considering raising the maximum
fine significantly. Ferrari was slapped
with a $3.5-million fine this month for
failing to submit the same Early Warning
Reports that Honda neglected to file,
though in Ferrari’s case the missing
reports concerned only three fatal
accidents.

Car and Celeb: Nissan GT-R Nismo has a bigger A*s than Kim Kardashian. Internet still not broken

Despite vowing to “break the internet” by getting
her hilariously oversized butt out for Paper
Magazine, Kim Kardashian who posed with a glass cup resting on her butt has only managed to
engender a slew of funny responses. One has
unexpectedly come from Nissan who tweeted an
image of the GT-R Nismo’s with their own glass cup resting comfortably on it's rear end claiming
“Ours is Bigger.” That may be so, but we suspect
Kim would retort with: “Yeah, but mine is oilier.”
Touche.

Car and Celeb: LeBron James Is The New Ambassador Of The Kia K900

NBA players are a valuable marketing resource with consumer reach as far as a full-court shot. That’s why when LeBron James approached Kia for with the idea of an endorsing deal, Kia  took notice. The end result is a deal between the two, or more specifically, James and the Kia K900.

Apparently James had the chance to drive around all summer in the K900 and ended up loving the car. ESPN reports James posted a picture of the car on Instagram with captions reading, “Rolling in my K900. Love this car!!”

Tim Chaney, Kia’s vice president of marketing told ESPN.com, “We were not actively seeking another endorser, but LeBron told us, after driving the car around this summer, that he like it so much, that we decided to partner with him. He brought us instant credibility."

James said in a statement regarding the collaboration, “For me, a partnership has to be authentic and real to who I am and that’s what makes this one so special."

While the details of the multiyear, multimillion-dollar deal have not been disclosed, sources say James must show up at Cavaliers games in the K900 and will appear in several TV commercials. Thankfully for LeBron, the deal does not restrict him from driving other vehicles in his 20-car fleet, which includes the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Maybach,  and Rolls Royce.

While Kia isn’t expecting the deal to create clamoring crowd of K900 buyers, the Korean automaker does expect the endorsement deal to have a positive impact on the brand’s public perception as a viable luxury  automaker.

CarNews: Nissan develops first self cleaning prototype

Washing a car can be a chore – and a costly one at that. In response, Japanese giant Nissan has developed the world’s first ‘self-cleaning car’ which it predicts will make car-washing ‘obsolete.’

For drivers who would rather run a mile than wipe down their dirty vehicles with a sponge or wince at the high cost of a car-wash, it means salvation may soon be at hand.

A Nissan spokesman said: ‘The Nissan Note is first car to trial paint which could make car washes obsolete.

‘Washing a car can be a chore – and a costly one at that. In response, Nissan has begun tests on innovative paint technology that repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers may never have to clean their car again.’

Scientists have developed ‘super-hydrophobic’ and ‘oleophobic’ paint, which repels water and oils. It has been applied to the all-new Nissan Note supermini to create what it calls ‘the world’s first self-cleaning car’.

Nissan says it is the first carmaker to apply the trade-marked technology called Ultra-Ever Dry® on automotive bodywork and will be testing it ‘in the real world’ over the coming months at its European Technical Centre at Cranfield in Bedfordshire.

Explaining how the dirt-repellent coating works, a Nissan spokesman said: ‘By creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment, it effectively stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car’s surface.’

The Note already features a ‘wash and blow dry’ function on its rear view camera. This uses water and compressed air to automatically keep the lens free of dirt and ensure the Notes’ safety sensors work in all conditions.

A spokesman said: ‘So far, the coating has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water.’

Photos: Kia’s ‘X-Men’ Sorento uses Wolverine’s claws as front-end decor

Kia has announced an X-Men-themed Sorento to promote the Days of Future Past Blu-ray release alongside the brand’s Australian Open sponsorship, and the crossover wears Wolverine’s claws front and back. Don’t worry about ol’ Logan, though. He’ll come back. They always do.

The Sorento SUV also features a red and black color scheme and one of Kia’s three engine choices: a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four, a 240-hp 2.0-liter turbo, and a 290-hp 3.3-liter V6. Each powerplant is hooked up to a six-speed automatic and features optional all-wheel drive.

In mid-December, Kia plans to release a YouTube video of the brand’s ambassador, tennis star Rafael Nadal, driving the car and fighting alongside the X-Men to defeat the Sentinels. Presumably, the robots’ mission is to adapt Nadal’s flowing locks and only the mutants can stop them.

We’re going to assume the car is nigh indestructible because of the adamantium enhancements, but we’ll have to wait for the car’s public debut at Melbourne Park in January to find out. At the very least, it must have inherited Wolverine’s healing factor, right?

Up next for Century Fox and director Bryan Singer is X-Men: Apocalypse, a sequel (or is it prequel?) to Days of Future Past set in 1983. The film is slated for a May 18th 2016 release, and will feature members of the Days of Future Past cast like Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Quicksilver, and Mystique. Characters like Gambit, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler have also been rumored.

The main villain will be Apocalypse, a god-like supervillain bent on becoming the new messiah for mutant-kind.
....but for real in real life, I would never ever try driving behind a car with a behind like this, would not want my bonnet crushed to death by the back side of such a mean looking ride. Needless to say I want nothing short of owning the "wolvery" Sorento

CarNews: 2015 Toyota Sienna SpongeBob Edition

The Swagger Wagon has just received a dramatic and quite literal facelift, featuring the unmistakable mug of SpongeBob Squarepants. This one-off piece of absurdity is actually a 2015 Toyota Sienna, customized to the hilt by Toyota and Nickelodeon to promote the upcoming SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

The Sienna SpongeBob Squarepants Edition will make its public debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. As sure as the sun is hot, this creation will likely go down as one of the more popular attractions in Los Angeles.

Once the SpongeBob Sienna gets its fill of the spotlight in Los Angeles, the van will embark on a cross-country tour to promote the new SpongeBob movie before the it opens in theaters on February 6, 2015.

Serious-minded folks are likely to scoff at the Sienna SpongeBob and dismiss it as nothing more than a novelty showpiece. How easy these people forget that this is actually the second SpongeBob-themed creation Toyota has built in as many years. Remember the 2014 Toyota Highlander Spongebob Squarepants Edition that made its debut at the 2013 SEMA Auto Show?

On a far less obvious level, it’s a genius marketing ploy to attach SpongeBob Squarepants to a minivan Toyota wants parents all over the U.S. to buy. What better way to do draw attention to that than by dressing up a Sienna using a cartoon character that kids of this generation are all-too familiar with. We see what you’re doing there, Toyota.

CarNews: Meet Chevy’s insane Vision GT

A 240mph top speed. 0-60mph in 1.5 seconds. A frickin' 671kW laser. And 900bhp. Welcome everyone, to the most insane Gran Turismo concept we've ever seen.

Unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show, this fighty little thing is called the Chaparral 2X Vision GT, built - as you're probably aware - for Kazunori Yamauchi's seminal Gran Turismo racing series.

Those with particularly long memories will remember Chaparral: the Texas-based outfit partnered with Chevy over 45 years ago, knocking out a few outlandish racers along the way.

Unlike many of the Vision GT concepts you've seen from the likes of BMW, Mitsubishi and Subaru, this one's actually real. If you pop down to the LA show now, you'll be able to touch it and everything.

We're told the 2X - in the game at least - packs a 671kW laser (cue Dr Evil close up) powered by a pack of lithium-ion batteries, and an air-powered generator to produce a cool, clean 900bhp. Think McLaren P1 territory. Chevy tells us this powertrain was "inspired by technology derived from advanced work targeted at space travel and future aircraft design." This is excellent inspiration.

How does it work? The mid-mounted laser beamed energy propulsion system, we're told, pulses beams of light that focus in a shroud, to create shock waves that generate massive thrust.

In Gran Turismo, it'll do the performance stats as mentioned above. And if you actually get inside, you'll find the most bizarre - and slightly intimidating - seating position ever. You lie face down with your arms and legs splayed out towards the wheels, with suspension and propulsion built around the driver, which, says Chevy, "enables progressive strategies of active and driver adjustable aero."

"The Chaparral 2X VGT is a vision of how advanced technology may shape the look and driving experience of racing," explains Chevy. "Chaparral's race cars and methods were seen as outlandish four decades ago. The 2X VGT concept might just be a harbinger of motorsports in the next four decades."

We'll have more pics on this bonkers concept later fresh from the LA show floor. For now, have a scroll through the pics - best Vision GT concept so far?

CarNews: Kia Unveils KX3 Concept, Targets Young Consumers.

Kia has unveiled its KX3 concept which it intends to offer exclusively in the Chinese market. Kia says the KX3 Concept targets young Chinese consumers “who are looking for high-value, high-quality cars that reflect their passion for an outgoing lifestyle.”The automaker has yet to confirm whether the KX3 concept will go into production.

The KX3 concept has been designed and engineered through Kia’s Dongfeng Yueda Kia (DYK) joint venture.

The KX3 is 4,260mm (167.7in) long, 1,765mm (69.5in) wide and 1,630mm (64.1in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,590mm (101.9in). Kia says the wheelbase allows plenty of cabin space for passengers, while the boot has a capacity of 400 liters (14.1 cu-ft).

The KX3 concept is powered by Kia’s 1.6-liter turbo gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The Korean automaker says the four-wheel drive powertrain delivers “fun-to-drive handling characteristics”.

The cabin features Kia’s latest in-car connectivity technology, including smartphone functionality. The automaker says the KX3 concept has a high level of standard equipment and offers a wide range of options. The chassis has been engineered to get a five-star C-NCAP safety rating, thanks to ultra-high tensile steel used throughout the body shell to maximize passive safety.

CarCare: What you should do about that engine oil leakage/burning.

Every engine needs oil between its moving parts not only to reduce friction but also to carry away heat. Oil is the primary means by which the rod and main bearings are cooled, as well as the pistons. So any reduction in oil flow may cause these parts to run hot, gall and seize.

Low oil pressure is often a contributing factor in engine failures. The underlying cause may be a worn oil pump and/or excessive clearances in the main and rod bearings as a result of high mileage wear or neglect (not changing the oil and filter often enough).

Oil starvation is almost always fatal to any engine, and is usually the result of a failed oil pump, a plugged oil pickup screen inside the oil pan, or a low oil level. Bearings that have been damaged as a result of insufficient lubrication will be shiny and worn where the crankshaft journal wiped away the bearing material.

Overhead cam(OHC) engines are even more vulnerable to oil starvation and low oil pressure problems than push-rod engines because the cam and valve train are farther from the pump. When an OHC engine is first started, it takes awhile for oil pressure to reach the cam bearings. If the oil viscosity is too heavy (especially during cold weather), it may delay the arrival of oil long enough to starve and seize the cam. For this reason, most vehicle manufacturers recommend using a 5W-30 oil in late model OHC engines year round, but especially during cold weather. Refilling the crankcase with the recommended viscosity oil can prevent a recurrence of this type of failure.

If you suspect engine damage may have been caused by a low oil level, check the dipstick to see how much oil is in the pan. A low oil level may be the result of neglect, oil leakage and/or oil burning.

Oil-fouled spark plugs and a heavy buildup of black wet deposits on the backs of the intake valves and in the combustion chambers would tell you the engine had been using oil. Oil usually enters the combustion chamber past worn valve guides and seals, and also past worn or broken piston rings and worn cylinders. Worn valve guides can sometimes be knurled to reduce clearances, but usually it requires installing new guides, guide liners or valves with over sized stems.

Installing new valve guide seals can often reduce oil burning dramatically. An engine that sucks a quart of oil every few hundred miles may be able to go several thousand miles without using any oil with a new set of valve guide seals.

Any evidence of oil leakage around the front or rear crankshaft seal, pan gasket, valve cover gasket or other gaskets, would tell you new gaskets and seals are needed. Most of these gaskets and seals will have to be replaced anyway if you are opening up the engine.

Bearings ruined by dirty oil will have foreign material embedded in the surface and/or be scored by debris. Check for a plugged oil filter and/or a missing air filter or oil filler or breather cap. The underlying cause here may be not changing the oil often enough.

Study In China.

LIAONING PROVINCE
Liaoning, one of the top leading provinces in China is located in the Northeastern part of China. Shenyang is one of the top ten developing cities in China. It is about six hours to the capital of China, Beijing.
ADMISSIONS IN CHINA
China has about 1000 world recognized universities in diverse fields, and among these, only a fraction teaches in English medium. Among these universities that teach in English medium, only a fraction admits foreign students. Liaoning is among the pioneer provinces where English medium has been thought in the universities for more than 20 years and for that reason they admit lots of foreign students.
WHY STUDY IN CHINA?
China is the fastest growing economy in the world right now! Its infrastructure is so developed that it will give students very good exposure to an ideal society and broaden horizon.
Mandarin is the official language in China. About 2 billion people speak this language worldwide making it the most spoken language in the world. Yes, classes will be thought in English, but mandarin will be thought also to students so as to enable students to be able to converse and do conventional business with Chinese. This can useful now and in the future for finding jobs internationally. Students that study in China are required to pass HSK (Chinese Proficiency Course) and certificates will be given in which the students will be certified that he/she can speak, write and communicate in Chinese. This certificate is important if candidates decide to get opportunities to work internationally, as either interpreters or even in other capacities in big conglomerates, hospitals etc.
The Chinese culture and tradition dates back centuries Before Christ and students will be opportune to visit Landmark sites for example Great wall, Tian’an men Square, get to witness festivals, meets lots of foreigners (China has the largest influx of foreigners) among other Beautiful scenery. No Racism in China as everybody is treated equally and warmly by the Chinese people (Chinese are one of the most cheerful people on earth).
The Chinese currency (Yuan) is among the lowest in terms of exchange rate to any currency with great universities around the world (naira 33 naira presently) and it is most cost efficient to study in china as the fees and living cost is almost the same as that of Nigerian private universities and the exposure is priceless.
Chinese medicine also is thought in the university even though students are admitted to study clinical medicine.
Studying in China is not without its own challenges as we know Chinese to be very hardworking people. Students are not allowed to play truant in school (can be expelled or asked to repeat) and pass mark cut off is 60%. 59% is an outright fail in china! There are no public holidays in china except for two weeks in February set aside for spring festival. Though there are vacations (summer and winter) and students can get to visit other cities and have fun while studying.
SCHOLARSHIP
There are scholarships in various forms in China. But there aren’t full scholarships in China. Scholarships that are available range from 500-3000 Yuan (100000 naira) depending on how good the students perform just to encourage more people to perform.
WORKING WHILE SCHOOLING;
In most schools in China, foreigners and indigenes are prohibited from working. As it is believed it impedes learning. However some schools allow this. All the information will be shed more light when students apply.
However this does not impede business as various students go as far as sponsoring themselves in school through buying and selling among other business available if students so please.

WHERE DO I COME IN?
I help prospective students select and secure admission in various top-notch schools (universities and colleges) and notable fields such as Medicine, Petroleum Engineering, Aeronautics, International Economics, Pharmacology etc. I also help with the admission letter, JW202 Application (a form issued by the Ministry of Education in China), airport pickup (straight from Beijing), and students’ registration among other services not provided by conventional agencies to ease the comfort of students coming to study in China.

CarNews: Galpin Auto Sports and Fisker turn the Mustang into a Rocket in LA

They just can't get enough of the stang'.

Weeks after Motoring Nigeria brought to you the Ford Mustang RTR developed by  Vaughn Gittin Jr, a professional drifter and the RTR team at the SEMA auto show, Galpin Auto Sport and Henrik Fisker has introduced their own heavily tweaked version at the Los Angeles Auto show.

Galpin Auto Sport and Henrik Fisker made big promises about the Rocket before its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show yesterday, calling it the "ultimate American muscle car." Now that this 725-horsepower carbon-fiber Ford Mustang has officially been revealed, we've now got a chance to see if their vision backs up all the bluster.

The Rocket is based off the latest 2015 Mustang, but the entire exterior design has been substantially reworked by Fisker. "This is a project born out of passion, it's a dream come true, to have the opportunity to 'touch' a Mustang and apply my design ideas to it," he says in the model's announcement.

The biggest changes come up front, where Fisker has added a gaping hexagonal grille with a polished bar running and two nearly hidden driving lights at the top corners. Long nostrils run down each side of the hood, taking their inspiration from the 1968 Shelby GT500. The Rocket's design also emphasizes its scalloped sides, which run back to functional ducts at the rear to cool the Brembo Grand Turismo brakes. When checking out the Rocket from the rear, it's easy to spot the wider fenders that are beautifully blended into the integrated spoiler. The interior has been left mostly alone beyond some eye-grabbing red leather and carbon-fiber trim.

Under the hood, Galpin spokesperson Nathan Hoyt has confirmed to Autoblog that the Rocket employs a 5.0-liter V8 with a Whipple supercharger which can be called to attention with a six-speed manual gearbox.

It took only a few months for the vehicle to go from conception to reality. Fisker showed Galpin President Beau Boeckmann early sketches at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and the two parties went from there. "When Henrik showed me his ideas, I got chills - it's literally the most beautiful Mustang I have ever seen," says Boeckmann in the company's release.

Production is set to begin in December, with deliveries starting in early 2015. There's no set production total in mind for now, but Hoyt tells Autoblog that the price will be "just over $100,000, thats a whooping N17.6m, using the exchange rates as of yesterday.

Video: Nigerian’s Pimp My Ride Uncovered

A Nigerian Rasheed Filua Omololu not long ago, made the spotlight when his company Filua Pimp my ride was uncovered by CCTV. In his interview, he talked about getting his inspiration from the American ‘Pimp my ride’, which obviously also influenced his company name.

He started his company by selling off his car and land to raise $24,000, this same company is now worth about $3 million with revenues coming from not less than 10 car modifications a month with each one costing a minimum of $5,700.

He started his career as a mechanic and honed his skills in Holland and Germany.
