Mercedes GLC Drops Camouflage; Debuts June 17: Spy Shots

While the GLC Concept Coupe continues to draw
attention as a production-ready  preview of
Mercedes’ upcoming competitor for the BMW X4, according to Top Speed, the standard GLC came out for yet another testing
session ahead of its official debut on June 17,
2015.

Now with a lot less camouflage covering its
body and with all of the production parts in place,
the GLC looks ready to hit the assembly line.
As you may already know, the GLC is actually a
renamed second-generation GLK.

Mercedes
changed the crossover’s designation according to its new naming scheme
which aims to establish a
better connection between vehicles sharing the
same platform. In this case, the "C" in the GLC
comes from the  C-Class, the sedan equivalent of
the compact crossover. And not surprisingly, the
GLC’s exterior styling is heavily based on the C-
Class’. Actually, the crossover’s appearance is
similar to the 2015 C-Class wagon  a the major
differences being the increased ride height, the
added plastic cladding, and the shorter rear
overhang and rear quarter glass.

The MRA architecture isn’t the only thing the GLC
shares with the C-Class. The sedan will also get
the sedan’s powerplants, including the bi-turbo,
4.0-liter V-8 from the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63
and the hybrid drivetrain from the 2016 C350E
model. In the United States, the GLC will initially
arrive with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter
V-6 producing 241 and 329 turbocharged horses,
respectively.

Bye Bye Honda Crosstour

Written By Opeyemi Sobowale
Been If you’re like me then I’m sure you’ll be happy
to bid the Honda Crosstour farewell as Honda
finally closes the curtain on its crossover
Accord. For me its good news and not the
thought of a new model can placate me. I’m
not been a big ban of cars based on sedans like
the Toyota Venza, Toyota Matrix and the Honda
Crosstour no wonder they’ve all suffered similar
fate.
Introduced in 2010, the Crosstour built on the
Accord chassis was a recipe for failure from the
outset in my opinion. Just like the Venza, it
has two rows of seats and no four wheel drive
capability talk less of the odd look. Even
though it was built for the North American
market we see a lot of them in the Nigerian
market because the US car market is a huge
sourcing ground for the Nigerian car market
which has huge grey market operators.
Although John Mendel, executive vice president
of American Honda Motor Co. believes the
Crosstour has serves its purpose, “However, the
crossover segment has evolved and we believe
the all-new 2016 Honda HR-V launching later
this spring will create new value for crossover
shoppers and play a more significant role as a
gateway model for the Honda brand to drive
light truck sales growth.”

Safe Driving Tips.

You are not yet a good driver if you cannot drive
‘perfectly’ in any weather, at any season of the
year and any time (day or night). By perfectly, I
mean a ‘safe’ drive. Driving safely is all about
adhering to a basic set of rules before and while
behind the wheel. Whether you are driving to work
or for leisure, it’s important that you take care of
some vital things to make every drive a safe and
enjoyable experience.

Check your tyres
Do ensure that your tyres are in good condition.
Tyres that are excessively worn need immediate
replacement as they become a safety hazard.
Also, don’t forget to get your tyres inflated to the
correct pressure and be sure your spare tyre is
ready for a quick change. It is also recommended
that you keep a pressure gauge available in the
vehicle; so that you can check the pressure as
recommended in the owner’s manual. And while
you’re at it, you might want to rotate your tyres
every now and then to facilitate even wear and
consistent performance.

Watch your speed
It might be great fun to cruise along the highway with the music blaring, but you may soon find
yourself crossing the speed limit! Besides, endangering your own well being, being too eager to push your car to the limits can also prove
hazardous for other drivers. So, keep a tab on your speed at all times. Keep an eye out for unpleasant weather
Roads are at their trickiest almost immediately after a downpour, as a lot of oily substances build up due to dripping engine oil and other fluids. When it rains, it brings these oils to the surface making it really slippery. In such a scenario, your car may start gliding or hydroplaning. The most important thing to remember is not to panic or slam on the brakes.
Immediately lift your foot off the accelerator,
keeping a firm grip on the steering, and let the vehicle glide until you feel your vehicle picking up traction. Also, if you are driving in a thunderstorm and visibility is poor, it makes sense to pull over
and wait it out. You could also run the risk of getting struck by lightning, especially in wide
open spaces or mountain roads, so stay in your car and pull off the road.
Timely maintenance
Last, but not least, do remember that you can
keep your car in perfect shape with proper service and timely maintenance. “Prevention,” they say,
“is better than cure.” Preventive maintenance will not only grant your car a long life, but will also keep your mind at rest whenever there is a need to march on the gas pedal.

New Ford Everest Debuts

The name Everest might not ring a bell in
Europe or the US, whereas in Southeast Asia
and Africa it has become a household name.
The new model of the Seven-seater SUV which
debuted in Thailand last month is in direct
competition with the Toyota Fortuner . The
Everest and Fortuner are made with the same
ingredient, while the former is built on the Ford
Ranger chassis, the latter is built on the Toyota
Hilux’.
Autofocus blog reporta that the new Everest described by its maker ‘as one
of the toughest SUVs in its segment’ is
available in rear-wheel drive and four-wheel
drive variants
Ford have fitted the new Everest with state-of-
the-art equipment like its latest generation of
Ford’s Sync 2 in-car connectivity solution,

corners for easy menu navigation. It also
comes with an unbelievable 10-speaker sound
system with an integrated subwoofer.

TDCi and a 2.2-liter Duratorq four-cylinder
TDCi. The engines are mated to two
transmissions- a six-speed manual and a six-
speed automatic.
The Everest will go on sale in 2015 in nine
markets- China, Australia, New Zealand, India,
and markets across the ASEAN region. It will
also be introduced to Sub-Saharan Africa and
South Africa in 2015.

Mercedes-Benz Gains Ground With Midsize Pickup

Mercedes-Benz seems to be gaining lost
ground with time, over the years they have
launched into segments never imagined. They
have launched into the hot hatch with the A-
Series, the Seven-Seater SUV with the GLS-
Class, the compact SUV with the GLC and now
the midsize pickup segment with the proposed
offering dubbed GLT.
The proposed GLT according to Volker
Mornhinweg- head of Mercedes-Benz Vans is
an “an ideal vehicle for the international
expansion of our product range with a newly
developed model.” to be launched in markets
like South Africa where they love their bakkis,
Australia, Europeand Australia.
Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of
Management Daimler AG and Head of
Mercedes-Benz Cars Division also adds that
“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute
nicely to our global growth targets. We will
enter this segment with our distinctive brand
identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are
typical of the brand with regard to safety,
comfort, powertrains, and value,”
The GLT is going to be marketed as a premium
midsized pickup billed to bridge the gap in the
midsize pickup segment which is seen as
currently undergoing a revolution worldwide,
with more pickups being used for domestic
uses
There isn’t much information on the pickup for
now, but a proposed date being circulated by
Merc sees a launch before the end of the
decade.

Why Northerners Love Cars and Southerners Just Love Toyota

Growing up in a small southwest city, I was exposed to a variety of cars Toyota corolla, Starlet and the Carina,  the Peugeot 404, 504 and 505 evolution, the Volkswagen Golf Mk 2 which my mom used, the Passat and the Jetta, Nissan Laurel and Bluebird, the Mercedes Benz 230E baby Benz 190E, the frog faced 1999 E-class and the C class. I also remember some SUVs like the 4 runner,  Land Cruiser and Toyota Prado that was used by the present Ondo state governor when he was still a commissioner for health and lastly, that car we used to touch and run after triggering the loud anti-theft alarm, the car which after acquiring, the owner would automatically be made a chief in Igbo land, the same one which had small wipers on its headlights, the luxury Mercedes Benz S class that was only used by wealthy people,  the same wealthy folks who had broken pieces of glass cemented on their on their fences. Back in the day, there was an endless list of cars to feed my eyes on.
Fast forward to post 2010 and all I see in the southwest is Toyota  more Toyota products then maybe some Honda, I get to see some of the other brands but not as much as the Toyotas. Needless to say, I am bored and I have only the internet to help fuel my automotive passion until I took a trip to the North. The diversity was more than I ever imagined, you get to see all brands of cars from the Italian Alfa Romeo to the German Beamers and Mercedes Benz, Peugeots, Chryslers, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, Fords, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bugatti Veyrons and all of the exotic cars you only see on TV. One gets very excited with the presence of these cars making their noises around, gallivanting and disturbing the peace. OK, I confess, there is a high chance that I might have included some form of exaggeration in what I've written above. A city like Lagos in the southwest is somewhat different. Though we still have a multitude of Toyota loyalists who would  reject a G63 AMG( G wagon)  for a Toyota Camry without second thoughts. There are quite a number of brands available for the healthy consumption of the human eyes. Same applies to places like Warri and Port-Harcourt, our rich lands of black palm oil, I have my resident friends constantly telling me of stories of families who have endless fleets of Rolls Royce Mercedes and Bentleys but the undisputed  fact remains, the Toyotas and Hondas are in so much abundant abundance. I agree, there are Toyotas everywhere in Nigeria, heck! everywhere in the world but the question coming from all edges of the universe still remains, why is there such an imbalance of this distribution in southern Nigeria? I have some reasons I think are responsible for this phenomenon: Here is some of what I have to say.
Imitation: This is one of the biggest reason for the Toyota fever we have in the south today. If my friend today gets a Toyota Camry (Muscle), definitely when it's time for me to purchase my own car, I would definitely go for Muscle Camry without feeling the need to research other brands just because I want to measure up to his status as a proud muscle owner. As funny as this sounds, this is a serious thing that I have experienced myself and seen happen with my 'korokoro' eyes. It is true and it happens.
Cheap Cost of Maintenance and Good fuel Economy: A perfect example of a car like this is the 2003-2006 Corolla and Corolla sport with a 1.6 litre engine, the car with the highest demand from the middle class. Buying as low as N500 fuel can get you around town for upwards of 2 days. The cost of maintenance is not left out as the parts are very cheap and easily accessible not leaving out the fact that the owners of these cars hardly visit the mechanic because of the durability despite the state of our roads. Honda products would have fitted well into this category but for the constant problems associated with Honda products such as transmission problems and of course that thing Honda vehicles do when one of its front tyres act like it's possessed by Benin witches and takes a turn more than the other, you know what I'm talking about!!??
High Population of Middle Class citizens: Well this is self explanatory,  there is a high population of middle class citizens in the south who just want a good looking , easy to maintain car to move around town  without having too much hassles. Once again, the Toyota fits well in this category.
Bad state of roads: It is a common conception that roads in the north are better than the ones in the south. If this were true, it means northerners have the luxury to put other brands on the road. While I have no evidence of this conception to be true, I support the notion and there is also this conception that Toyota cars were made with Nigeria in mind hence, no brand of cars can handle bad roads as much as Toyota products can without turning motorists to their mechanics best friends.
Simple Technology: You would agree with me that our mechanics, even the most useless of them can handle Toyota faults and Toyota models can also handle a good number of abuse being meted out to them on a daily basis.
Fading Car Culture in the South:  I remember my Dad telling me about people who did crazy things with cars back in the 70s, an example I can't forget is that of a man called Dr Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo state and former commissioner of the western region who was said to have bought a brand new Citroen (Dad did not specify the model name) and drove it to a speed of around 200km/h just to see if it would summersault when he suddenly deployed the handbrake, well, he deployed the handbrake  and did not end up in a ditch. I admit, that was a bit crazy but a lot fun for him. I can imagine his tyres screeching hard with the sweet aroma of burning rubber all around his car. Now, the only place you would find this sort of thing in Nigeria is the North,  Car Culture in the north has even gone crazier with all sorts of stunts, burnouts and drifting happening every weekend at various locations. Southerners just buy cars, drive to their work place and go home.
The combination of all these factors have made Toyota incredibly popular in southern Nigeria. Of course, there are more reasons why they are more popular in the south than in the north as there are just a few mentioned in this piece. Feel free to drop your comments stating your own reasons why you feel they are more popular.

Check out Rolls Royce super awesome Phantom, AKA Project Cullinan

Back in February, Rolls-Royce announced its plans to manufacture an SUV... or more specifically, "a vehicle that can cross any terrain." While we're still waiting to see what that vehicle will look like, the automaker has provided photos of the first "engineering mule" that it's using to develop the necessary all-wheel drive suspension system.

No, this isn't just a super badass Phantom. The car you see here – code named Project Cullinan – is an early development mule for the new all-wheel-drive suspension system that will eventually be found in Rolls-Royce's upcoming SUV. It's made up of a shortened Phantom body, looks totally murdered out, and has a huge freaking wing on the back. We love it.

Based on a shortened Phantom Series II body, the mule apparently bears no resemblance to the envisioned final product. According to Rolls-Royce, the finished high-sided vehicle (known for now as Project Cullinan) may be about the same size as the mule, but other than that they share no design aspects.

The automaker plans to test the mule's suspension both at private facilities and on public roads, taking it across rough terrain such as Belgian Pavé (pavement composed of stone blocks), cobblestones, corrugated concrete, surfaces designed to create and measure noise, and acceleration bumps.Development of the mule is being described as the project's first major milestone.

16 Cars to watch out for in the New York Auto show

The 115th annual New York Motor Show has kicked-off yesterday and is in full swing, we’ve been poring over the new metal at the Javits Convention Center to bring you all the latest news from the show.
Brand new models from companies such as McLaren, Porsche and Jaguar, have already been unveiled but there's plenty more to see from other manufacturers. The show runs through until the 14th with the covers coming off some spectacular new metal in the next few days.
You can read our full run down of the latest New York Motor Show 2015 news below.
* CADILLAC.
Cadillac is set to make another return to the UK later in 2015 with a big investment in new models, and one of the most important the brand will be bringing over here will be the CT6 luxury saloon. Making its debut in New York, the Mercedes S-Class rival is expected to be offered with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine. We'll have images and details soon.
* Honda.
Honda has surprised the crowds in New York with the sharp new Civic concept. While the model on show in New York has a coupe bodystyle, the concept previews the design of the next-generation Civic hatch that we'll be seeing in the UK in 2016.
* Jaguar (2015 JAGUAR XF).
Perhaps the most relevant car to the UK at the show, the second-generation XF has been shown in the flesh at New York with styling inspired by the smaller XE compact executive. It gets a slick new cabin with a new generation of comfort, infotainment and safety tech, and a range of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines providing class-leading efficiency.
* Kia (Optima  Range).
Kia's all-new Optima range is debuting at New York, and was first previewed by the Sportspace concept from Geneva. For the first time an estate version of the Ford Mondeo rival is more than likely to appear, and it'll reach our shores early in 2016. A new longer bodyshell, updated interior and acraft of new safety tech will feature.
* Land Rover (Range Rover SVAutobiography).
Land Rover is taking its luxury SUV to another level at New York, in the form of the flagship SVAutobiography. Costing nearly £150,000, the ultimate Range Rover gets bespoke styling upgrades, impressive interior finishings and a 543bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8.
* Lexus (2015 Lexus RX).
Lexus' new RX SUV will arrive in the UK at the end of next year - retaining the distinctive and angular styling cues from the smaller NX crossover, as well as the firm's usual hybrid powertrain. It gets more kit and a more upmarket interior to take the fight to the Range Rover Sport and Mercedes GLE.
* Mazda (Mazda MX5 Club Edition).
Mazda's MX5 is as fresh as small roadsters come at the moment, with a racier new 'Club Edition' variant joining the range in New York. The Club Edition is said to be the "most aggressive road-going iteration" of the fourth-generation model. The 1.5 and 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engines remain unchanged, but it will get sporty styling additions and tweaks to the chassis.
* McLaren (McLaren 570S).
McLaren's new entry-level sports car range has been introduced with the all-new 570S. Designed to sit beneath the 650S in the line-up and take on top-end 911s, the 570S is just the beginning of the Sports Series family. A less powerful and more affordable ‘C’ model will follow the ‘S’, with a Spider due after that.
* Mercedes (Mercedes GLE).
Mercedes' GLE Coupe was already unveiled at Geneva, but the standard version of the car has appeared in New York. It's a rival for the BMW X5 and the replacement for the outgoing M-Class SUV, and will come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time in the form of the GLE 500e.
* Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi Outlander facelift).
Mitsubishi's Outlander mid-size SUV range will be getting a mid-life facelift at New York. Previewed by the PHEV Concept S at the Paris show, it'll embrace plug-in hybrid technology and build on the success of the current PHEV with an updated powertrain.
* Alpina B6.
Ever heard of Alpina? I doub you have . Well it's an auto firm which has been in existence for a good 50 years To mark the company’s half century, Alpina introduced its most powerful and fastest model at New York. The limited-run B6 sticks with its 4.4-litre V8 but sees power rise to 592bhp – 60bhp more than the standard model. The engine is capable of propelling it onto a top speed of 204mph. Alpine will only produce 50 Coupe and 50 Saloon versions. Yup! They're extremely rare.
* Porsche (Porsche Boxster Spyder).
Porsche have shipped over a new model from Stuttgart to wow the crowds. The Porsche Boxster Spyder is the fastest ever Boxster the firm has produced, with 370bhp from a 911-sourced 3.8-litre flat six. It also gets revised bodywork and comprehensive weight-saving measures.
* Subaru (Subaru STi Performance Concept).
Subaru has pulled the wraps off the STi Performance Concept in New York. Based on the BRZ but with upgrades to produce nearly 450bhp, it's unlikely to go into production. But it acts as a showcase the capabilities of the STi brand and how the technology being shown can filter through the rest of Subaru's range in the near future.
* Toyota (Toyota RAV4 hybrid).
Toyota revealed last week it plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Toyota RAV4 for the first time at New York. This will debut alongside the rest of the facelifted range for 2016, and is likely to feature an adapted all-wheel drive powertrain from the Auris and Prius plug-in hybrid.
* Volkswagen (VW Beetle concepts).
VW has gone the extra mile by revealing not one but four concepts, although they're not strictly new cars. A sporty R-Line version of the Beetle will feature on their show stand alongside Denim, Pink and Wave editions which increase the scope for personalisation.
* Mazda MX-5 Club.
The Club Edition of the Mazda MX-5 is a stiffer and more focused version of the fourth-generation roadster. It gets new shocks and dampers as well as an engine strut brace to increase body rigidity. Bigger brakes and lighter wheel have alsobeen added but the 1.5 and 2.0-litre engine options remain.

2015 BMW 2 Series Coupe Review

Displaying 20150406122048.jpg
Smallest BMW M-model will arrive in late 2015, sporting around 370bhp from a 3.0-litre straight six. It's been rumoured and hinted at for a long time, but it looks like BMW is finally ready to add another model to its ultra-hot M-range. Fans lusting after a smaller and cheaper M-car will be satisfied imminently as the M2 Coupe is set for release at the end of the year.

While the 1-series M Coupe was engineered and rushed to market in a short time, BMW is taking its time to fine-tune the M2. And because the "regular" M235i, an M Performance model, already approaches the performance capabilities of the old 1-series M Coupe, the M2 needs a generous extra helpingof power and technology. We expect the M2 to be considerably lighter than the M235i.

Its price point will see the new M2 CoupĂ© compete directly with an upgraded version of the Mercedes-AMG A45 and the upcoming second-generation Audi RS3 when it reaches UK showrooms this summer. A public debut for the new BMW in lightly-veiled concept car guise is planned for this year’s Frankfurt motor show in September.

The M2 CoupĂ© will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre in line six-cylinder direct injection petrol engine. It won’t, however, be the powerplant used by the larger and more expensive four-door M3 and its mechanical identical two-door sibling the M4, according to departing M division boss Friedrich Nitschke.

Described as an all-new development, the S57 B30-designated unit is based around the German car maker’s upcoming B57 powerplant that is planned to make its debut in the sixth-generation7-series later this year - rather than the older N55 engine that forms the basis of the unit that powers the M3 and M4, the so-called S55 B30.

A heavy cloak of secrecy surrounds the new engine, which is also earmarked to power a range of future petrol powered ‘M Performance’ models for BMW M’s subordinate go-faster brand. Nitschke revealed it could develop up to 400bhp in production form, beating the future power output of the four- and five-cylinder engines of the A45 and RS3.

New Hydrogen fuel research breakthrough could end dependence on fossil fuels

Researchers from Virginia Tech have discovered a
new biological way of creating hydrogen fuel that
takes a lot less time and is much cheaper, which
could be a breakthrough to help end the human
race's dependence on fossil fuels.
Hydrogen fuel is a green fuel that has almost zero
carbon emissions, and at the moment, it is
produced primarily using high processed sugars.
It costs a great deal to produce the gas in large
enough quantities for it to be used in fuel cell
vehicles, and it is also a challenge just to transfer
the gas into fuel cells.
Instead, the Virginia Tech method involves using
dirty biomass, i.e. the husks, cobs and stalks of
corn plants in order to create the fuel. This
means that it is much cheaper to produce the fuel
and means that processing plants that make other
corn-based products could also make the fuel
and use it to power their operations.
Using glucose and xylose simultaneously
The researchers' findings, entitled " High-yield
hydrogen production from biomass by in vitro
metabolic engineering: Mixed sugars coutilization
and kinetic modeling " are published in the journal
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
(PNAS).
"This means we have demonstrated the most
important step toward a hydrogen economy –
producing distributed and affordable green
hydrogen from local biomass resources," said
Percival Zhang, a professor in Virginia Tech's
Department of Biological Systems Engineering.
Zhang's former doctoral student Joe Rollin used a
genetic algorithm along with a series of complex
mathematical expressions to analyse each step of
the enzymatic process that breaks down the
unwanted parts of the corn plant into hydrogen
and carbon dioxide.
He was able to make the system make use of
both glucose and xylose at the same time, which
increases the rate at which the hydrogen is
released. Typically in biological conversions,
these two sugars can only be used sequentially,
not simultaneously, which adds time and money
to the process.
Much faster than hydrogen production today
Using Rollin's method, the new system for
creating hydrogen fuel increased reaction rates
threefold and the system requires a facility about
the size of a petrol station, which is much smaller
than hydrogen fuel production facilities today.
Also, by using a cell-free artificial enzymatic
pathway, the researchers were able to increase
and break the natural limit of hydrogen-producing
microorganisms threefold, and also increase
enzymatic generation rates so that reaction rates
were 10 times faster than the fastest photo-
hydrogen production system currently in the
world.
The next step for the researchers will be to
increase production of the hydrogen fuel using
their method to a demonstrable size to prove the
costs work out for mass production.
"We believe this exciting technology has the
potential to enable the widespread use of
hydrogen fuel cell vehicles around the world and
displace fossil fuels," said Rollin.

' Furious 7' breaks records with $143.6-million opening

We all somehow suspected this would happen didn't we? Furious 7" raced to the top of the domestic box
office, picking up a massive $143.6 million in its
opening weekend. Let me help you convert it to naira to make you get a feel of the awsomeness....it's about 30billion Naira, 30 Billion!!! Osalobua!

That establishes a new high-water mark for the
month of April, blowing past the $95 million debut
of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," and
stands as the highest-grossing kick-off for any
film in the "Fast and Furious" franchise. It also
ranks ninth among the top ten openings in
history as audiences flocked to see star Paul Walker in one of his final roles.

The actor died in a 2013 car crash at the age of 40 and his work on the film was completed using digital
technology- CGI (computer generated images) and a series of stand-ins including his brothers.

"This is a bittersweet installment in the franchise,"
said Phil Contrino, vice president and chief analyst
at BoxOffice.com . "Walker's passing made this
movie more intriguing for people who hadn't seen
some of the installments. It raised awareness and
its success is a tribute to him."

Universal Pictures spared no expense in bringing
the latest chapter in the fast cars and gravity-
defying-stunts series to the big screen, shelling
out $190 million on the production. It unspooled
in 4,003 North American theaters, earning $14
million on 365 Imax screens and $11.5 million
from premium large format screens. Going into the weekend, most analysts estimated that the
film would open in the $115 million range.

Foreign numbers were steroidal. Internationally,
the film rolled out across 10,500 screens in 63
territories, earning $240.4 million.

"This thing is on fire."

With an A CinemaScore and strong reviews,
"Furious 7" could be one of the few modern
blockbusters that hangs on for more than a few
weeks. The month of April is lean on blockbuster
fare and "Furious 7" won't get serious competition
until "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" debuts on May
1.

The opening weekend crowd was impressively
diverse, a testament to a series that has drawn
strength from its multi-cultural cast. The audience
was 51 percent male, 44 percent under age 25,
37 percent Hispanic, 25 percent Caucasian, 24
percent African-American and 10 percent Asian.
"We're expanding our audience based on the
diversity of interest from different ethnic groups
all buying into saga of Dom Toretto and his
family," said Nick Carpou, Universal's president of
domestic distribution, referencing the character
played by Vin Diesel.

Best cars at the 2015 New York Motor Show

The 115th annual New York Motor Show has kicked-off yesterday and is in full swing, we’ve been poring over the new metal at the Javits Convention Center to bring you all the latest news from the show.

Brand new models from companies such as McLaren, Porsche and Jaguar, have already been unveiled but there's plenty more to see from other manufacturers. The show runs through until the 14th with the covers coming off some spectacular new metal in the next few days.
You can read our full run down of the latest New York Motor Show 2015 news below.

* CADILLAC.

* Lexus (2015 Lexus RX).

* McLaren (McLaren 570S).

* Mercedes (Mercedes GLE).

* Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi Outlander facelift).
Mitsubishi's Outlander mid-size SUV range will be getting a mid-life facelift at New York. Previewed by the PHEV Concept S at the Paris show, it'll embrace plug-in hybrid technology and build on the success of the current PHEV with an updated powertrain.

* Alpina B6.
Ever heard of Alpina?? Nah i don't think so. Well it's an auto firm which has been in existence for 50 years. To mark the company’s half century, Alpina introduced its most powerful and fastest model at New York. The limited-run B6 sticks with its 4.4-litre V8 but sees power rise to 592bhp – 60bhp more than the standard model. The engine is capable of propelling it onto a top speed of 204mph. Alpine will produce 50 Coupe and 50 Saloon versions. Yup, they are rare.

* Porsche (Porsche Boxster Spyder).

* Toyota (Toyota RAV4 hybrid).

* Volkswagen (VW Beetle concepts).
VW has gone the extra mile by revealing not one but four concepts, although they're not strictly new cars. A sporty R-Line version of the Beetle will feature on their show stand alongside Denim, Pink and Wave editions which increase the scope for personalisation.

* Mazda MX-5 Club.

2016 Toyota Rav 4 Sets to debut at NewYork Auto Show.

Toyota is being extremely enigmatic with its tease for the newly announced RAV4 Hybrid. The Japanese automaker merely has a photo of the model's rear end with a visible hybrid badge onit. The only additional into tells us to look forward to the CUV's debut in just a few days at theNew York Auto Show on 2nd of April.

According to autoexpress.co.uk, Few details have been given so far, and the teaser image isn't exactly revealing, but we can see a sharper LED tail-lamp design. The rest of the back end appears to remain broadly similar to the current car, but we can expect design changes similar to that shown on the recent Auris and Avensis facelifts.

That will mean a more aggressive grille and bumper design, with angled headlamps and daytime running lights. Material upgrades and new tech will feature in the cabin, as well as updated engines including BMW-sourced turbodiesels and likely a turbocharged petrol unit.

It should also receive Toyota's latest range of Active safety tech. The 'Safety Sense' system will bring a collision avoidance system, active braking and cross-traffic alerts.

The automaker has made its plan clear to sell even more crossovers in the near future, and the RAV4 has already been a strong mover for Toyota. The company shifted 267,698 of them in 2014, a year-over-year jump of 22.7 percent. Through February 2015, it has sold 41,767 examples of the CUV, a 25.3-percent improvement over the same period last year.

Media previews at the 2015 New York Auto Show open next Wednesday. For full details stay connected.
