Mercedes-Benz Gains Ground With Midsize Pickup

Mercedes-Benz seems to be gaining lost
ground with time, over the years they have
launched into segments never imagined. They
have launched into the hot hatch with the A-
Series, the Seven-Seater SUV with the GLS-
Class, the compact SUV with the GLC and now
the midsize pickup segment with the proposed
offering dubbed GLT.
The proposed GLT according to Volker
Mornhinweg- head of Mercedes-Benz Vans is
an “an ideal vehicle for the international
expansion of our product range with a newly
developed model.” to be launched in markets
like South Africa where they love their bakkis,
Australia, Europeand Australia.
Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of
Management Daimler AG and Head of
Mercedes-Benz Cars Division also adds that
“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute
nicely to our global growth targets. We will
enter this segment with our distinctive brand
identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are
typical of the brand with regard to safety,
comfort, powertrains, and value,”
The GLT is going to be marketed as a premium
midsized pickup billed to bridge the gap in the
midsize pickup segment which is seen as
currently undergoing a revolution worldwide,
with more pickups being used for domestic
uses
There isn’t much information on the pickup for
now, but a proposed date being circulated by
Merc sees a launch before the end of the
decade.
