New Zagato Mostro pays homage to 1950s Maserati

Design house Zagato has revealed a stunning
coachbuilt Mostro sports car with Maserati V8 -
and only 5 will be built
Italian design house Zagato is famed for styling
some of the world prettiest and most exotic
models, and it hasn't disappointed with its latest
effort. The Mostro is a limited-edition, coachbuilt
model built to pay tribute to 1957 Maserati 450 S
Zagato 'Monster'.
The Mostro will make its debut at the Concorso
d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy. It features carbon-
fibre bodywork and a lightweight "MonoCell"
carbon-fibre tub chassis, much like the one you'll
find in any of Mclaren 's current supercars. Steel
tubing is used to enclose the cockpit.
Under that svelte front-end sits a dry-sump
Maserati-sourced V8 engine . There are no
details on power yet, although Zagato has made
reference to the 400bhp of the original fifties racer,
known as "il Mostro" for its monstrous
performance. It connects to a six-speed semi-
automatic gearbox at the back powering the rear
It's clear that the dramatic long bonnet and
shapely rear poses a considerable effort for
Zagato's coachbuilders, as only five will be made.
And there's no point in us speculating a price, as
every example has been sold to established Zagato
