Ultimate Driving Machines at the BMW 100 years Anniversary Show

On the 10th of September 2016, the world stood still as ..... No it didn't , the sky was weeping, the good people of BMW club Nigeria were putting finishing touches to one of the greatest event of the year, and I was somewhere in V.I getting drenched and regretting why I left home without an umbrella.
This would come as a shock to some, but there are people who take their love for cars to a whole new level, we call them enthusiasts, and there are those who make the enthusiasts look like wannabes. They are the elite folk of the automotive world, they not only admire, they celebrate both automotive perfection and the brands responsible for creating it, these people are the petrol heads. These people come together to create social events that promote their core ideology, think of it as Comicon for car lovers, and with all the big names out there it's easy to conclude that BMW car shows are one of the greatest in the world especially since the brand has a long history, great heritage and achievements to rival any car maker on the planet, with a great deal of time put into planning it really isn't difficult to see the makings of an amazing event, one that would remain the talk of the town for a while.

I saw a lot, too much to even imagine disappointment, from the cars to people, to the organizers, the security. All of which gave off
that hint that a lot of work had gone into creating the success I am documenting. I spent a great deal of time with the members of the BMW club Nigeria and they succeeded in making me feel like one of them, they talked about their cars and the experiences they've had while owning them, they highlighted the great moments and others, but one thing they all had in common was that they may appreciate other brands, but they'd rather own a Beamer.
I soon found myself wandering going from stand to stand, taking
pictures of as many cars as I could, 3 series sedans, 5 series, 6 series, and just when I thought I was going to get bored the big players showed up in M3s and X6Ms, revving like no mans business and thrilling the crowd that soon started to gather round them. One car that particularly fascinated me was an E30 M3 in pristine condition, a true classic, one that takes you back to the roots, the golden era of automotive engineering that shaped it into what we enjoy today, and trust me it had a truly deserving owner. I wiped off a small tear that had built up in my left eye and moved on to cover the vehicle exhibition on the track, with cars and SUVs doing a small timed lap amidst cheering crowds armed to the teeth with camera phones and other recording devices. The car with the best lap time was announced and there was a parade in honor of the brand with bikes in front and cars behind all expressing the true spirit of ecstasy only a petrol head can recognize.

Nigerian Motorcyclist Embarks On Solo Road Tour of North America

Nigerian motorcyclist and chemical engineer, Ogbonnaya ‘FD’ Kanu has gone on another super bike adventure, and this time, it’s an exploration of North America. FD will get to experience the sights and sounds of North America in a way that only a motorcycle can provide.

In 2012, Kanu made history as the first Nigerian motorcyclist to ride solo to Europe and back, a total distance of over 16,000km. In 2014, in the midst of the Ebola crisis, he rode from the Southernmost tip of the African continent to Lagos - braving the risk of being turned back at some of the African countries’ borders due to the Ebola epidemic.

His North American tour is also an opportunity for him to participate in the challenge for the Triple Crown - an award given to ten - fifteen  motorcyclists every year in the USA. Once again, he would be the only Nigerian to attempt to win the award.
In order to qualify for the Triple Crown, FD is participating in three different tours - The 3Flags Classic (which involves a cross country ride into the countries of USA, Canada and Mexico); The Four Corners - an intensive, high endurance ride to the four corners of the USA, and lastly the California Missions Tour - a tour of the 21 Missions in the state of California

An interesting feature of this year’s motorcycling adventure, was that his wife, Eseohe Kanu accompanied him on the 3Flags Classic. “This has been my fantasy trip. A cross country motorcycle ride..from warm (hot actually) Houston, Texas to cold Kimberly, Canada...7 days, beautiful scenery, lovely towns, old towns and extreme weather with my motorcycle family and the love of my life, my husband.
We went through some pretty amazing roads, curvy and roller coaster-like, through and up the mountains, in sun, heavy winds, rain and snow. We spent nights at amazing places, good food and lovely company,” she said.

FD was asked to give a talk and was also honored for his achievements in the motorcycling community at the 3Flags Classic Dinner held at the end of the tour.

At the heart of his passion for riding is his service to financially disadvantaged orphans and fatherless children, by providing them with scholarships from primary to first degree level via the Fotodadi Foundation (FD Foundation), of which he is a co-founder. The proceeds from the sales of his motorcycle adventures are also channeled to the foundation.

The FD Foundation currently sponsors the education of 40 children, and is aided by the support of individuals and organizations. Interested sponsors/supporters may visit the foundation’s website at

FD has also been logging short clips of his North American road tour on his YouTube channel, lacing a bit of humor with his narrations.

2017 Land Rover Discovery Leaks Online

Thanks to the plethora of teasers offered by Land Rover, the upcoming Discovery’s looks aren’t a mystery anymore, but here are some additional leaked images, which show the model in all its glory.

Although Land Rover’s own teaser image showing
The front end of the all-new 2017 Discovery was revealing enough to give us an idea on how the model will look, the new images offer a completely new perspective.

Taken from an online brochure by
Car Advice hours before the model’s official unveiling, the images show the Discovery being put through its paces in the wilderness. Unsurprisingly, judging from the single still photo, the new Land Rover's aesthetics are not that different from the Discovery Sport and the Discovery Vision concept showcased at the 2014 New York Auto Show – albeit it has a boxier appearance and revised style cues.

The SUV will reportedly be offered with Land Rover’s Ingenium family of engines, and will be the first model in the brand’s lineup to gain a special SVX off-road version. But as you can see from the images, even the standard variant appears to be
a capable off-roader that’ll probably stay true to the company’s heritage.

We’re expecting to find out more about the model once it officially launches at the Paris Auto Show.

Ford Will Continue To Make Enthusiast Cars Alongside Autonomous Vehicles

Ford says it will continue to build cars for driving enthusiasts even as autonomous vehicles become more commonplace.

While many fear the rise of the self-driving car will spell the end of vehicle's catered towards people who actually enjoy driving, Ford futurologist Sheryl Connelly told Autocar that, in the future, it will remain committed to enthusiast's cars.

“Autonomous is a spectrum of technologies with assisted driving, like adaptive cruise control, at one end and full hands-off driving at the other. We remain committed in future to building enthusiast’s cars. There are some models where autonomous makes sense and others where it does not,” she said.

The American automaker is currently testing a fleet of Fusion Hybrid self-driving vehicles on the streets of California, Arizona and Michigan. Additionally, Ford recently teamed up with Google, Volvo, Uber and Lyft to speed up the development of autonomous cars and to get a high-volume self-driving car into commercial operation by 2021.

At the same time, Ford Performance continues to produce some of the industry's best value performance cars, most notably the Focus RS and Shelby Mustang GT350 range. Soon, the 2017 Ford GT will fit into the firm's burgeoning fleet of driver's cars.

Thankfully, these models won't be the last of their respective breeds.

Volvo Takes Aim At Tesla While Also Praising The US EV-Maker

According to Volvo boss Hakan Samuelsson, his company plans on topping Tesla in the next 10 years, which he considers to be a segment leader at the moment.

Since Tesla's approach to the EV market has always been an emotional one (not just pragmatic), Samuelsson thinks Volvo too can be equally innovative in their approach, concerning both design as well as technology.

"It's all about how we can bring new value to our customers," he said. "That's important and that's how you can improve the emotional value of the car. We need to have something that is not just transportation, but that has some other emotional values also."

The Volvo boss told Autoexpress that "pure performance cars - that could be something we want to go in to with electrification. More premium, more emotion and a higher price. More functionality, more connectivity, more service. Someone else can have the honor of pure petrol-driven sports cars."

Samuelsson also had high praise for Tesla, saying that they deserve credit for what they managed to accomplish"I must give them credit - they have made a car with emotional values also. I think Tesla is a better benchmark. It is premium and pure; it is built with passion. You cannot just do transportation from A to B - you can do that with a Ford Fiesta, but I doubt that [for Tesla] that would be enough."

Last year, Volvo announced plans for a full range of plug-in models, spearheaded by a Tesla Model 3-rivaling S60-sized EV scheduled for 2019.

Spy shots- Next Generation Mercedes G wagon caught testing on the streets

For an off-roader with an architecture that is almost four decades old, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class continues to attract buyers from different parts of the globe, so imagine what a new generation will do.

Making its web debut on video in test mule form, the hairy-chested SUV maintains its famous boxy appearance, but what seems to be pretty much the same, will actually turn out to completely revolutionize it.

According to car scoops, the all-new G-Class is said to gain an additional 10 cm to its width, which will not only translate into a roomier cabin, but will also improve its cornering abilities. Word on the street has it that the upcoming model will shed as much as 400 kg (880 lbs) from the current generation's weight, and this, combined with the extra oomph coming in the AMG versions, will make it significantly more agile.

Speaking of AMG, a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine will be used in the range-topping models, while the rest of the family will have to do with other petrol and diesel mills.

As for its official reveal date, nothing is known so far, but since Daimler's Product future map hasn’t revealed anything on such a possible SUV for 2017, our bet would be on a 2018 launch, which would make the next G-Class a 2019 MY.

3 Things You Need To Know About Bosch Hydropower Innovation.

Robert Bosch GmbH, or Bosch, is a German multinational engineering and electronics company headquartered in Gerlingen, near Stuttgart, Germany. It is the world's largest supplier of automotive components and recently they have shown that they are really invented for life.

Bosch's WaterBoost System is an innovative development for
powertrain systems that tap into as yet unimagined efficiency potential in combustion engines. This not only makes mobility fuel-efficient and lowers emissions, but it also enhances the fun to drive.
Here are three things you should know;

The waterboost injects distilled water into the intakes down to the combustion chamber. The injected water cools down the combustion chamber which helps the engine to work faster and allows the engine to run at a high-compression rations. Just 5 liters of the demineralized water will last you around 3,000 km and even if the water dries out, it has no effect on how the vehicle operates.

It's no news that engine perform better at high speed and also consumes less fuel but with the waterboost in play, you shouldn't have to worry much about your fuel.

The secret of its success is a tuning formula with demineralized water, which boosts power generation, lowers fuel consumption, and minimizes concerns about CO2 emissions in the WLTC (Worldwide harmonized Light-duty Test Cycle).

What are your thoughts on this, please do share with us in the section below.
